Baby Phat Rush Card - Review
The Baby Phat Prepaid Visa RushCard is not a credit card per se, but a debit card. You may be wondering what that means, so I will clarify.
Unlike an unsecured card where the company issues a card and attaches a credit limit to it which they then charge interest on as it is used. With this you load or deposit money and that amount then becomes your limit.
Instead of making purchases and paying for them later, along with the interest rate and associated fees, you pay for your purchases beforehand by loading funds.
You do get free direct deposit of paychecks and free deposit of tax refunds and transfers from PayPal. You can also mail in a check or money order. If you choose to use CheckFreePay or MoneyGram, there will be a $3.95 charge.
Unfortunately there is a $1,000 maximum load limit, per calendar day, for cash. There is a $5,000 maximum load limit, per calendar day, for direct deposits, excluding tax refunds. There is a minimum load limit of $25 when you use CheckFreePay.
You will never be charged interest rates with a debit card; however, you still need to pay attention to the rates and terms of the card. For example, there is a $1.95 ATM fee; $19.95 one-time activation fee; $1 per telephone purchase fee; $1.95 ATM withdrawal fee; $.50 per ATM balance inquiry; $1 for paper statements (per request); and, $9.95 replacement card fee. Always read the terms and conditions of any card before you apply.
There is a Refer-A-Friend benefit built into this offer. Each time someone becomes an active RushCard member through your recommendation, $5 will be added to your account.
They claim you can make purchases with your Baby Phat Visa RushCard anywhere Visa is accepted. And you can access over 800,000 ATMs with your PIN to order to obtain cash; and, you may obtain information regarding your account transactions any day, any time, online at rushcard.com.
This card is issued by Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company. Considering that this card has no interest rate on an outstanding balance like a credit card does, allows for the prepayment of purchases, eliminates the expense of writing checks and costly mailing of payments, this would be a good card.
It also is a good choice for folks who have a hard time with impulse shopping as you can only spend what is available. On the other hand I don't believe this would be good for those who are looking for a way to improve their credit history as this is not what the card is designed to do. - 16931
