Identity Theft a Punishment to the Victim Themselves How can You Avoid the Plague of "Identity Theft" Change and Identify Your Habits Leading to Personal Identity Thefts

By Arthur U. Fellon

Identity Theft , identity theft statistics . You hear it all the time on the news - be it on the T.V. , radio or financial or personal sections of your local or national newspapers and magazines. Worse yet , no one believes the victims of this fraud themselves. It often takes years of sustained effort for the victims of these perpetuated crimes to clear their good names and fortune. What can be done to prevent personal identity theft

You may think that you have eliminated your financial "paper trail" simply by never using checks to pay your bills and accounts due. Many consumers almost exclusively use credit cards and the new direct debit from bank account payment procedures to pay for their bills and cash payments. Think again you are not immune from acquiring and leaving a valid financial paper trial ready for a criminal intent on your good fortune to acquire and use for purposes of the committing the crime of identity theft on your personal financial name , record and well earned reputation.

Its all very simple , if not mundane to follow simple steps and procedures . which can simply afford you identity theft protection. Smokey the bear prevents forest fires . You should prevent personal financial crisis through identity theft prevention . After all it is you - the victim, who will suffer the penalties to your reputation and pocketbook. The punishments afforded to these criminals are fairly lax as the courts find it a most difficult crime to completely document in full. Criminals know this and stalk their financial prey almost with impunity. Never mind that they are halfway around the world , in a completely foreign legal jurisdiction.

Take steps to protect yourself from this torrent and plague of modern criminal activity - that is "identity theft".

Write your cheques in "real ink" not the erasable ink that allows for the easiest replacement of your legal signature. Checks and legal documents , that are carelessly signed with a pen handy at the time containing this erasable ink can have their signature as well as other supporting legal documentation erased and changed many many days later in time. One careless , lazy step can cost you exceptionally great time , expense and wasted efforts later.

Its obvious that you should keep your checkbook and cheque records safely away from obvious site and prying eyes. Your life can be changed for the worse by one single check quickly torn off in a flash, by what you might consider even a good friend. In the same fashion keep your store and records of canceled checks and account statements in a safe and private place. If you feel that at some point in time that these banking and commercial logs , certificates and records are of no value to you " then in a manner similar to the destruction of your other private records have them safely and confidentially destroyed.

It can be said that a few moments of prevention can simplify years of almost abject terror. Many a casualty or casualties of this modern "faceless " crime report a feeling of helplessness as they try to put their lives back together after the deluge of financial attacks. Worse yet no one - at their bank , credit card companies , the police authorities or even their lawyer or financial counselors seem to believe them fully. Time spent ahead of events to prevent personal or corporate business identity theft pays the best investment rates of all. - 16931
